Super Street Fighter 2 X - Dreamcast Music Replacement
June 4th, 2006
For the Sega Dreamcast console.

Recently, a new Street Fighter album was released, titled "Blood on the Asphalt". It was a collaboration by fans to revive the soundtrack to Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. It was a great album, so I decided to insert it into the real game, which was released on Dreamcast in Japan. This is widely regarded as an Arcade-Perfect port. I am doing this in an effort to allow people to enjoy this classic game all over again.

Every fighting stage uses a new remixed song, as well as a few other menus. Everything else uses the original music.

Notes
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
The menus are in Japanese. You may need to check out the Translation Guide in order to read the menus so you can set them to your liking:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/dreamcast/game/458569.html

You can also unlock the dip switch menu, and follow the related FAQ for instructions on setting the game itself to English.

I did my best to turn down the volume of the remixes so that they match the sound levels of the original songs. If you want to increase the volume of the music, you can go to the options, and lower the volume of the Sound Effects, and then raise your overall volume on your TV or Stereo Reciever.

This version of SSF2T is called "Super Street Fighter 2 X for Matching Service", because it has online functionality. I do not believe you can play this game against people online unless you live in Japan, and that is only if the servers are still up, which I do not know.

I'm sorry if you think that some of the remixed tracks are too soft for this game, as opposed to their original versions. In the end, I decided to exclusively use this one arranged album, and not use any music from any other albums.

Instructions
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Decompress SSF2T_REMIX.7z using the 7-Zip compression utility, which is easily found at www.7-zip.org. Burn the .CDI image using Alcohol 120%. Set it to use the "Playstation" configuration profile, and then change the burn speed to the lowest possible. Burn to an 80 minute CD-R, and it should work.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Warnings
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Do not ask me how to replace music in a Dreamcast game.
Do not ask me how to self-boot a Dreamcast game.
Burn with DiscJuggler or take your chances with anything else.
If you don't like it, stick with the original version.

ToodlesDC recently released an English hack of the game - would you be interested in updating your release with his translation ?

Well, it would help if you posted a link for me to download it. If you do, chances are likely, considering that the current torrent for this recently died. An English version might last longer. Actually, I thought this game had english text if you enabled them in the mess of japanese menus. Or was it where you enable it through the old arcade configuration menu?

No, it's actually a translation; here's a link to Toodles' release:

Just with a hex editor and Google translate. The japanese text was two byte unicode, and the first byte of the pair was usually the same. Did a wildcard search with the hex editor, found the begin and end of the strings, and see what google said. Replace with English, and repeat. The ability to check with chankast helped a ton. nullDC is better, but wasnt out then.

I am really glad that you consider an update. Very Happy

- Hm, while you're at it, maybe you also can raise the volume of the BGM a bit? A compressor like 'WaveHammer' in SoundForge should do the job fine; at least that's what I am using when editing music.

I originally meant to redo the game with the music volume raised, but I never got around to it. You can just lower the sound effects in the options instead.

That link you just gave me looks like a multi-game custom disc. If it is, I doubt I can properly extract the single game itself and work with it.
