Pretty interesting comparison, I do own both versions of the game but never really gave it much thought...
I actually thought about doing something like this with the Grandia.
btw to my knowledge the pc version of resident evil featured the intro in color

Got a link to prove that? I never heard of such a thing. Seems like if they shot the intro in greyscale, they wouldn't be able to color it later on. Well, it wouldn't be worth the effort anyway.
Anyways, here is a comparison of Grandia on both systems:

Intro in color: http://www.residentevilfan.com/multimedia.asp
The film at the top, "Uncut Opening Movie from Resident Evil".
I first heard about this back in the days when the game came out. A friend of a friend (well, they weren't even friends) had the game for the PC, and claimed that the intro was in color. I never saw it though, before I saw that video on REfan a while back. I also think I heard that the Japanese PS1 version was colored, too, but I cannot confirm this.
Anyway, at least there is one...

Awesome find! It looks so funny in color. Wesker's hair especially. I remember checking out this site a year ago but all their downloads were dead.

 Great!
Great comparison! I stumbled across your board via http://www.racketboy.com. As a Saturn owner and fan myself, I am of course ashamed to see that the Playstation version is far superior. -_-;

Ashamed? Wow, that's a strong word. It doesn't matter what system got the better version.

The japanese PS1 version is colored. I can verify. The reason the intro was in grayscale in america was because of the gore level.

Cool. Yeah, I figured the greyscale was a form of censorship. I didn't know it was in color on the Jap PS1 release though. Thanks. All I had to work with was the two versions of the USA PS1 director's cut, and all 3 regions of the Saturn version.
