I've got Silent Hill 2-4 on PC, and I'm messing around with it's stability while capturing with FRAPS. Everything seems pretty reliable. I have two song ideas to go along with this project.

The whole video might be at that quality and resolution. I'm still getting some frame rate dips here or there, down to about 25, while I am capturing. Hopefully I can tweak these games or tweak FRAPS, so that I can get a 100% solid 29.97fps capture. If I can pull this off, it would certainly turn out to be one of the highest quality fan-based game music videos made.

Edit: Ok, the full screen film grain effect might have to go, because it is a major enemy of compression. If I left it in, then my 60 gig backup drive won't be big enough for all the footage I need. I can always reinsert the film grain using a plugin for Premiere, at the end of the project.

And I think I fixed the frame rate dip problem, by turning on "no sync" on FRAPS. With this option on, every frame is unique, but the speed might slightly fluctuate here or there. It's a very worthwhile trade off, and the average person will never know the difference.

Ok screw it. This doesn't look good. Seems like Fraps is some uncrackable program, and I am not ganna use the free version because I will have a watermark through the whole thing.

How do big budget games get cracked, but some tiny app like this is invincible?

Edit: Ok it's looking like the trick to this thing is, you only get 1 working install...ever. And since I had the legal demo installed originally, I now screwed it up by installing a full version. So the next time I format, the full install version should work. I just don't intend on formatting any time soon... :(

So I guess I better experiment with a different project idea for now.

Yeah Fraps is annoying like that. You could always use Game Cam but that isn't as good as Fraps but who knows maybe you could work something out with it. Also you could try uninstalling all the Fraps versions then delete the Fraps information in the registry and then reinstalling the full version.

Oh by the way what song ideas did you for the video?

I tried all that. I got rid of fraps. I deleted everything in the registry with "Fraps" in it. I deleted the directory for fraps. I deleted the entire Temp folder for this user account on windows. The damn thing infiltrates your registry with HUNDREDS of randomized registry entries, as a piracy measure. Definitely not a good way to convince me to purchase it, if it puts bullshit data on my system. I just gatta wait til I format and try again.

I don't share my video ideas openly, because someone with speedier editing skills might take them. Plus, I rarely come up with ideas, so I gatta hold onto them. I do have an idea for a video using the 1990's Megaman cartoon though. I had both dvd sets a while back and I copied all my favorite episodes.

Damn I didn't know Fraps was that bad, as for the video ideas, no problem about that, I completely understand.
