Capcom vs SNK 2: Accurate Mix - Dreamcast Music Replacement
November 15th, 2005
For the Sega Dreamcast console.

The point of this project was to replace the music in Capcom vs SNK 2 to something more fitting. You will find that every stage now has a song that is more in tune with that stage's setting. While keeping this main idea in mind, I also did my best to maintain variety, as well as quality, in my choices. A song that matches the stage is fine and all, but it needs to go with the fighting as well. It needs to keep you pumped. That was the entire aim of this project. I used music from any source, including video games and anime.

All of the other tracks have been replaced as well, with the exception of the introduction theme. I felt that practically anything is an improvement over that annoying announcer in the game's menus. Unfortunately, he still speaks on his own sometimes, but a majority of him was in the game's original soundtrack, which has now been replaced.

I spent a good 20 hours on this, and used up 8 CD-R's in the process. I hope you enjoy the end result. All tracks are tightly edited, and they should loop when needed. You should never come across a silent portion of the game. It is my hope that this version of CVS2 will find itself in your Dreamcast much more then the real version does.

Improvements v1.1 ~ July 10th, 2008

The game can now be mounted and/or emulated on your PC. Enjoy.

I've also made a lot of minor changes. It's mostly the same, but the training stage is now a montage of 3-4 trancy songs much like the MVC2 Accurate Mix training stage. I replaced the New York stage music to something a little....audible. I also edited a few things slightly better, and I replaced one of the "here comes a new challenger" bits, which was a duplicate. I changed one of the two demo tracks (during boss cutscenes) which were also duplicates. Finally, I changed 2 of the victory themes which some people complained about.

Warnings

Do not ask me how to replace music in a Dreamcast game.
Do not ask me how to self-boot a Dreamcast game.
Burn with DiscJuggler or take your chances with anything else.
If you don't like it, stick with the original version.

I'm stupid. All this time I had a few errors in the track list here. The original torrent from 10 months ago is still alive and well, but the version of the game I kept for myself was actually very slightly revised. I had changed a couple short menu tracks, and replaced the Training Stage's song, with a crossfaded selection of 3 other songs. I had the track list for my slightly updated version of the game here, when I meant to leave the original's track list here, since that's the version that is still being shared.

If the original torrent ever dies, then I'll host the updated version locally, but until then, I'm just not going to go to the trouble.

Why do you want to show my releases there? They're not really technically impressive. If you did, I'd like it if you could give credit by handing out this site's address, though. 90% of the people who download my releases have no idea I have a site.

But yes I remember DCN. I just hated their rules for becoming an uploader. I didn't like being forced to ask other members to upload my releases for me, and when I asked why that is, I got flamed. So I went off and did my own thing. Those guys were very stubborn.

I have dug around for other possible remix projects. I can't find many good candidates. I may eventually do Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, but I honestly like the soundtrack already. It also has a very complicated music file structure because each stage has 3 distinctive songs for each round.

What about one of the powerstone games? Admittedly, Powerstone 2 would be slightly harder to remix since some of the stages have more than one track - for example, the airship stage has 3 tracks - one for fighting on the airship, one for falling form the airship, then one for the fight on the ground when you land. It would be pretty complicated, but if you could pull it of it would be pretty cool. Powerstone 1, on the other hand, is really ripe for music replacement - Its got a simple, standard 1-song-per-stage structure, and some of the music is really dull.

I've delayed on the Powerstone 2 idea for a long time due to what you mentioned. But I havent played PS1 very much. Maybe it does need a mix.

Hi Mozgus, I was turned on to your site here by a comment you posted over at Underground Gamer. You've got some great stuff here, man. Your works are enjoyed and appreciated.

I wanted to ask, I noticed that you used some X-Men Legends music in your CVS2 mix; do you have that soundtrack or did you just rip the track you needed?

That is just the song from one of the trailers from X-Men Legends 1. I simply demuxed the mp3 from the video trailer. I dont have the actual song from the game.

Thanks for your compliments!

I see.

Have you tried to use the Gamecube sound plugin for Winamp to pick up tracks from that game? I intend to try that but I won't bother if you've already attempted & failed.

It's worth a shot, but I dont have an xmen legends image on hand. I down own a GC or a PS2 anymore. I could ask him myself if it works on the game. I keep in touch with the guy on AIM.

Yeah, that's the one.

I got rid of my GC copy not long ago on eBay but I have a Gamefly subscription so I'll rent it and see what happens.

Sent.

That's exactly where I found all the Aura songs, years ago. They have such a generic name that its a bitch finding their official site today. I actually found it at one point but I'm not doing that hunt again. I also didn't like any of their new stuff.

Also, I think you meant to post in the MvC2 thread instead, seeing as how it's the one that used this song.
