I came across this site that uses flash 9 for streaming video and it does it by keeping a copy of the original file and transcoding it on the fly to your browsers flash 9 plugin.
You even can allow people to download the original source file from the site, which might be a great way to offload your file hosting costs.
Although you do lose control and tracking ability to see who and from where people are downloading your videos. Site can stream avis, movs, vobs and many other formats.
Its very ghetto looking still and doesn't have any of the cool features that youtube has, but it has the best video quality i've seen.

Wow, cool. I'll be checking this out. I'll probably only use it for videos which have been taken offline on existing sites due to legal issues. But I guess if I ever drop my host, I would keep all my videos here.
